Comparison between iStat Menus and Magican

System monitoring software was born to help users better and fully understand their Mac stat. It focuses on monitoring the stat of Mac CPU, Network, Memory, Battery, Disk and sensor and offering the detailed information. To save users out of confusion in choosing right monitoring software, today we made a comparison of two pieces of monitoring software (iStat Menus and Magican). The comparison results as following:

1, Place that display monitoring data

Magican

Magican Floating Window

From the pictures above, we can easily find out that Magican has all the monitoring results displayed on its Stat module of main program, but also show some important information (CPU usage, RAM usage, Bandwidth change and Resources occupation rate ranking) on the menu bar to help users easily check at any time. iStat Menus has separately put setting bar in main program and display window on menu bar. Then users need to open several windows at the same time to operate, that would be a little troublesome for monitor.

Now, let us take a look at what they have monitored.

2,CPU

Magican

iStat Menus

Both the two monitoring software give the same information of CPU, but iStat menus allows users to set the time interval to refresh data and make menu bar data being selectively displayed. This makes iStat Menus to be more meticulous.

3, Memory

Magican

iStat Menus

To help users better understand their Memory stat, both Magican and iStat Menus use analytical graph and data to describe Memory stat. Seems that Magican has drawn a more vivid and clear analytical graph than iStat Menus.

4,Disk

Magican

iStat Menus

iStat Menus has carefully divided Disk status into Disk usage and Disk Activity, but its analytical graph and data are too small to check for. I am worrying that these small analytical graph and data would make my eyes fuzzy after seeing for a long time. BTW, it seems to be improper for iStat Menus did not display the Disk Activity speed (read/write).However, Magican expressed a more generous analytical graph for users to check for disk usage and disk activity.

5,Network

Magican

iStat Menus

Obviously, iStat Menus has fully monitored Network. No matter Bandwidth or IP, even WI-FI and Bluetooth were all taken into consideration by iStat Menus to express Network stat.

6, Battery

Magican

iStat Menus

Both two monitoring software have warning to avoid the low battery, but iStat Menus has carefully set the second warning for users. Meanwhile, iStat Menus offers access for users to save energy.

6, Sensor

Magican

iStat Menus

Two monitoring software display the sensor stat in details and both of them have access to set Fan speed. But it takes me more time to find out where to set for Fan speed in iStat Menus.

Comparison results: both two monitoring software did equally well, but also shortcomings do they have. iStat Menus is more sophisticated, but it cannot help making me feel cumbersome, and its display of data and charts are too petty. Magican is more easy to see but not as considerate as iStat Menus. But being different from iStat Menus's single-function, Magican is an All-in-one function, and for the majority of ordinary Mac users, Magican has already provided the detailed monitoring information. As the old saying goes on: one man's meat is another man's poison, which of the two excellent monitoring apps is your type?
